ATELIER VERSLAG VANUIT ARNHEM
Een potlood is niet te vinden in zijn atelier. Hans schildert, tenminste dat denkt hij zelf. Maar is dat wel zo? Het is inderdaad verf wat hij gebruikt, maar meestal niet direct op het canvas. Hij stelt deze beslissing vaak uit door de verf eerst op een glasplaat te strijken. Daarna plakt hij het op het canvas en zo nodig trek hij het er weer af, voegt toe en werkt net zolang tot het beeld niet meer vraagt om verder in te grijpen. Een andere methode waarbij zelfs de kwast niet meer is, is het maken van acrylschuim, een prachtige structuur van lucht/niets en acryl.
Is het abstract of figuratief, Hans noemt zichzelf een materiaal realist: verfstreek blijft verfstreek en schuim blijft schuim. Toegankelijk voor iedereen die naar de wolken kan kijken en geniet van licht en structuur en niet panikeert als er geen gezichtje in te herkennen valt.
Op initiatief van OFF HOOK zal er een nieuwe zeefdruk van Hans Walraven worden gepresenteerd. Deze wordt door Hans en Lydia Wierenga gedrukt bij Zeefdruk Atelier Hogeland in Warffum. Op A4 formaat, de oplage is 30.

STUDIO REPORT FROM ARNHEM
There is no pencil to be found in his studio. Hans paints, or at least that is what he thinks. But is that really the case? He does indeed use paint, but usually not directly on the canvas. He often delays this decision by first applying the paint to a glass plate. He then sticks it onto the canvas and, if necessary, pulls it off again, adds to it, and works on it until the image no longer requires further intervention. Another method that does not even involve a brush is the creation of acrylic foam, a beautiful structure of air/nothingness and acrylic.
Whether abstract or figurative, Hans calls himself a material realist: a brushstroke remains a brushstroke and foam remains foam. Accessible to anyone who can look at the clouds and enjoy light and structure without panicking if they cannot recognize a face in them. Substance, light, color, structure, irritation, and contemplation. That is what the viewer has to work with.
On the initiative of OFF HOOK, a new silkscreen print by Hans Walraven will be presented. It will be printed by Hans and Lydia Wierenga at Zeefdruk Atelier Hogeland in Warffum. A4 size, the edition is 30.
