Off Hook is proud to announce that especially for this opening show, DJ Lihaskana will entertain us with a special performance! Lihaskana aka kanaliha is a visual artist and music enthusiastic from Estonia, currently living and working in London. Diving into a variety of genres, Lihaskana’s DJ sets are unpredictable and adventurous.

Karina Puuffin (1997) is a Ukrainian visual artist based in the Netherlands. In Off Hook, Karina is going to dive into her past, childhood and bittersweet memories of home. Not knowing if seeing her hometown, family and friends will be possible again, she is sincerely trying to recreate the remnants of her reminiscence through art.

The exhibition will develop over a period of several weeks. Visitors are invited to Off Hook to see the process of the art space being transformed into a playground. The artist is present each Friday from 12-17 hrs. from December 2nd till the opening show on January 6 th . Karina will be happy to meet and tell you about her work. Just drop by and have a drink.

Puuffin was born and raised in a small town in Eastern Ukraine, where she was taught to appreciate traditional values of art and academic style. When she moved to The Netherlands, a completely new art scene opened up in front of her: fresh, free from the standards and stereotypes. From being a classical painter Puuffin’s art transformed into an endless celebration of art. The bright colors, black stripes and abstract shapes escape from the canvas and enter into a dynamic relationship with the space. Inspired by Modernism, the artist is trying to break through the traditional ideas of the medium, merging paintings into sculptural objects and vice versa. Her work has a lot of references to Pop Art and the culture of comics, as well as to the general history of art. It is serious and humorous, playful and strict at the same time – an endless process of (re)discovering new possibilities.

Puuffin likes to fool around with the idea of “framing”. In Ukrainian the word “ramy” has a close connection to borders, boundaries and limits. The artist wants to see if she can blur out these fixed concepts of “frames”: in a literal sense as well as in definitions of art.

Karina Puuffin graduated from Minerva Art Academy in Groningen in 2020. The same year she was nominated for the Minerva Fine Arts Award, Buning Brongers Prize and RM Young Blood Award. Her work has been part of exhibitions at Galerie Ron Mandos (best graduates of 2022), Het Hem and Museum Eicas. Karina has also been featured in several magazine articles in Mister Motley and MetropolisM.

Especially for this exhibition, a limited-edition silkscreen print of Karina Puuffin will be available at Off Hook. Please follow Off Hook on Instagram and Facebook for pictures and information and follow the process.
